Campus construction update
February 5 - Third Floor Rear Level closed after 4pm Mondays - Thursdays
Effective immediately and until further notice- because of the transportation of debris out of the Core throught the Third Floor (Rear) Level, after 4 pm Mondays through Thurdays there will be no access between the Wings at the Third Floor Rear Level. On occasions the closure period might start before 4pm, depending upon the arrival of transport vehicles which are hauling away the debris. At those times barriers will be set up at the earlier times. Generally speaking, until 4pm daily you will be able to use the third floor rear level to go between the two wings of the main building. Access will be restricted after 4pm.
January 29 - Core of the Main Building remains CLOSED through winter 2008-09
Beginning today debris may be removed periodically through the back patio at the Third and Fourth Floor levels. During those times individuals WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE FIRST FLOOR WALKWAY OR SIDEWALKS IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING to move between the North and South wings. These periodic interruptions in the flow of traffic may occur during both day and evening class times. Probably a reasonable expectation of the number of "delays" at this time would be at most two per day and possibly fewer. It is not possible to anticipate exact times when the Third and Fourth Level access routes will not be available. Consequently, there will be times individuals might have to proceed back to the First Floor Level to to move between the North and South wings.
ADDITIONALLY PLEASE NOTE: The area directly outside the double doors leading from the North Wing (just outside the Stinchfield Auditorium) outside into the Third Floor area behind the Core is a RESTRICTED AREA. The double doors are ONLY for Emergency Exit and should not be used for either Entering or Exiting the building. Those individuals wanting to move between the North and South Wings or wanting to go outside for a break or the like should ONLY USE those routes designated.
January 12 - The Core of the Main Building is officially closed for renovation until winter 2008/2009.
Courtyards – North and South Courtyards are CLOSED for the winter months.
Covered Travel way: A four foot wide covered walkway has been completed along the front patio between the North and South Wings. There will be access to the travel way from the South and North Wings as well as from the front steps of the building. Windows and lighting are a part of the construction effort. Automatic Door openers have been installed at both the North and South entrances to the travel way, and there are windows and lighting along its length. Important: Water and ice could appear from time to time within the travel way. Members of the Grounds Department will do their best to insure treatment to any icy surfaces that appear, but please use caution when walking through this travel way.
January 2nd - Parking Changes
Effective immediately, visitors parking will remain visitors parking but the reserved parking area directly adjacent to the tunnel opening will be only for construction use. The service vehicle spots adjacent to the willow trees should not be utilized except by authorized personnel who are providing contract services to the college. The three spots for the college vans just adjacent to the OLP trailer storage area will remain for college van use (not for privately owned vehicles.) Staff and faculty as well as students or visitors should not utilize any of the parking areas in the North unless they possess the necessary designated parking decals for the appropriate space. Faculty and staff who previously parked in these areas will need to utilize lot F which almost always has available spaces.
Food Services
Campus construction has impacted food service at GCC. Effective June 4th, 2006, the cafeteria will be closed and replaced with an enhanced vending machine program at various locations on campus. Please see the Food Services site for complete information.
