GCC CRI Services & Resources
HUD 135: Career Exploration & Planning Course (1-credit)

Introduces students to the career exploration and planning process. Students use online tools and supplemental resources to complete self-assessments, engage in self-reflection, gather information about careers of interest, and relate potential careers to educational opportunities. Through this class, students create an action plan for achieving their education and career goals.

Ideally, a career development plan would include a list of personalized, doable, and empowering action steps that a student can take to both define and achieve their education-to-career goals – as well as defined timelines for completion.

Here are some steps you can take to get started:

    1. Fill in page 1 to reflect, gain insights, and establish your baseline.

  3. Take one or more career assessments to gain insights and reveal questions that you can follow-up on.
  4. Use reality checking tools to understand the relationship between specific occupations, financial well-being, and lifestyle preferences.
  5. Use occupation research platforms to start gathering perspectives about industries, occupations, and career paths.
  6. Engage in at least 1 Informational Interview to learn things you can’t research online.
