Kate Finnegan, M.Ed, Department Chair
Sharon A. Roth, Ed.D., full-time faculty
Sharon is proud to be a community college graduate. Employment
in the business world, midwifery and in many aspects of the early childhood
care and education
field has brought her to this destination. Having been at GCC for five
years, she is thrilled to be part of both education and developmental
courses. Her
special passions are advocating for family child care providers and bringing
the arts into young children’s lives. Her tastes in chocolate are
global; favoring 80% cocoa from the region of the Equator and best enjoyed
accompanied
with pop-country music.
Carol Sartz, MA, adjunct faculty
Carol has been teaching at GCC for about fifteen years, mostly in the evening.
She has worn multiple hats in the field of early care and education—including
working as a classroom teacher, running a parenting support program, supporting
and training family child care providers and classroom teachers, and managing
employer contracts for a child care resource and referral program. She
returned recently to work with children, blending her GCC teaching with
parttime work
in a preschool classroom, a source of great joy. Advocating for worthy
wages in the early care and education field and working for social justice
are
among her passions. She especially loves
dark chocolate.
Kim Audette, Coordinator of the Building Careers and Education Grant
Kim S. Audette is the Grant Coordinator and Academic Advisor for the B.C.E. (Building Careers in Education) program at Greenfield Community College and is an adjunct faculty member of the Education Department. She works closely with Early Education and Care practitioners to help them successfully navigate the higher Education maze and further their education. She is also an active member of the Franklin County Collaboration for Children.
Kim earned her B.A. from George Washington University in Elementary and Special Education and her M.Ed. from Lesley University in Expressive Arts Therapies. She has supported children and families for over 25 years through her work in early intervention, early care and education, and school age child care programs as well in teacher education programs and within the mental health and counseling fields. In addition to her work at the college, Kim helped to develop and publish the “Core Competencies for Massachusetts School Age Practitioners” manual, runs integrated therapeutic playgroups for children birth-3 and their parents, and is the Area Coordinator for the “Kids On the Block” puppet troupe which offers disability awareness performances for elementary aged children, their teachers and families.
Mary Ellen Kelly
Mary Ellen Kelly is Coordinator of the Peer Tutoring Program. She
has taught English courses in developmental writing and reading, composition,
children's literature, creative writing, and women's literature. In the learning
community, "Mother Goose Meets Socrates"
she enjoys teaching the children's literature survey course, while Kate
Finnegan teaches "Philosophy of Education."
