GCC's education department offers three distinct programs of study. For complete program and course descriptions, please reference our online catalog.

LEO | Liberal Arts/Education Option | Provides a broad range of liberal arts studies with an emphasis on education. The program builds a strong foundation for transfer to a four-year institution and for those who wish to teach in public schools.

ECE | Early Childhood Education | A program leading to an Associate of Science Degree. Its curriculum integrates classroom time with direct experience in early childhood settings. Graduates are prepared for immediate employement in the field.

LEC | Licensure for Childhood Educators | A certificate program that provides the courses required by the Massachusetts Office for Childcare Services for those seeking licensure as lead teachers in preschool settings. The program is recommended for those who are now working as aides and desire to increase their skills.

The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care goal for quality enhancement is that all preschool teachers have an Associate’s degree by 2010 and a Bachelor’s degree by 2017.
