Wendy Barnes
Wendy Barnes was born in Seoul, Korea, but grew up in Southern California. She received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied dance, postmodern literature, writing, and queer theory. While filing insurance claims for eight hours a day in a warehouse without any windows didn’t exactly make the world a better place, it did allow her to dance professionally in New York City and to pursue other interests like teaching literacy and dance to children and young adults. After moving to the Bay Area, Wendy received her MFA from Mills College and worked in the non-profit sector, including a writing program specifically for writers-of-color and teaching literature in the jails. When she’s not at GCC, she can be found in her backyard planting whatever flower is in season or at the dining room table writing short stories.
