How do I find quality information on the web?

The best strategy for locating quality information on the Internet is to utilize evaluated subject directories. Internet directories are created by people who select the sites to be included in the directory and organize those sites by subject or categories into a table of contents. You are probably familiar with one popular Internet directory, Yahoo, which also provides a search engine. The people at Yahoo do select the websites that are included in its directory, but they do not evaluate those sites for accuracy and reliability.

The following evaluated directories have been created by either librarians or scholars for the purpose of providing access to quality information on the Internet. It is recommended that you begin your research in one of these directories. Even so, you should use your own evaluation skills to determine whether a site is accurate and reliable before including it in your reference list. Remember, anyone can put anything on the Internet.
