Archibald MacLeish Friends' Collection

Archibald Macleish

The purpose of The Friends, organized in November 1986, is to assure the perpetuation and maintenance of the Archibald MacLeish Collection at GCC by sponsoring programs and encouraging gifts which will support and benefit the Collection. Membership is open to any individual, family, business or other group interested in Mr. MacLeish or our goals.

A current project is to publish The Archibald MacLeish Journal. The editors seek to promote scholarly research and offer opportunities for publication of material about Archibald MacLeish and about his associations and correspondence with contemporaries. We seek to advance the knowledge and understanding of Archibald MacLeish as one of America’s foremost contributors to twentieth-century culture, not only as a Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright and poet, but also as a major figure in the fields of law, library science, politics, international relations, and human rights. Submissions of original material are welcome.
