Release date: May 22, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDance students perform original work inspired by mid-east cultureThe GCC Middle Eastern Dance Troupe performed at the 10th Annual Mid-East Belly Dance Gala held at The Moving Company in Keene, NH on May 7th. This fundraising event attracts groups of dancers from all over New England to celebrate community and creativity in a festive atmosphere of Mid-East culture, music, dance and cuisine. The six GCC dance students performed original choreography by dance professor Sharon Arslanian, which was set to a classical Arabic musical composition by Mohamed Abdul Wahab. There were performances by twenty different groups, ranging from experimental and techno-influenced to traditional and "tribal." According to Arslanian, "This non-competitive event provides dancers a chance to show their best work in a totally supportive environment and to meet and exchange ideas with other dancers and choreographers from the New England region."
