Mission of Staff Development

The Mission of Greenfield Community College’s Staff Development Plan is to offer an all-inclusive and coordinated process of improvement for the college and the people employed by it. Through planned activities, all faculty, staff and administrative personnel will have the means to attain the knowledge and skills to better serve students and the community. The college is committed to providing learning opportunities for its entire staff to promote their development, which will lead to a higher level of performance and help individuals initiate, manage and respond to institutional changes.

GCC recognizes that sound professional development enables educators, administrators and staff to further develop expertise in work and/or teaching strategies, uses of technology, and other essential elements of teaching and learning. The growth of developmental activities will ultimately be judged on the basis of the impact on effectiveness and student learning. The assessment of these activities will inform and guide our practice and will also guide additional professional development. At the same time that professional development embraces this new path, we can not move away from our own Principles of Education.

Staff Development General Plan’s Objectives

  1. Plans and implements a needs assessment for administrators, faculty and staff to identify areas of professional growth and improvement
  2. Fosters a cooperative relationship with the five major administrative units of the College: President’s Division, Academic Affairs, Administrative Services, Institutional Support and Advancement, and Student Affairs for the advancement of multicultural organizational development
  3. Identifies sources to assist with staff need assessment, if required to identify staff skills/ competencies needed for staff development and consequently improve student educational achievement goals
