Over
the past ten years, Greenfield Community College has had several federally
funded certificate programs designed to promote women's entry into the
workforce. These monies are no
longer allocated particularly for women. During
that time, however, a Women's Resource Center did get started.
It was a tiny space in a quiet corner of the College, nurtured by the
Women's Studies faculty and a few women students with Federal Work Study (FWS)
grants. It was used for studying and meeting other women, but there were always
problems. The space was just too small and there was no money to
support it.
When
the new East Building opened, there was room for a much larger Women's
Resource Center (WRC). Now, the Mary Stuart Rogers
Foundation funding has turned the WRC has become the centerpiece of WIT. It is in a high traffic/high visibility location in a much bigger space.
