Greenfield CC

There is a free clothing exchange in the WRC, featuring seasonally appropriate children's clothing in good condition as well as adult sizes. Women with work-study grants keep the clothing current and organized. They also help out with bulletin boards, notices, and the food pantry.

A cup of coffee, tea and hot cocoa are always available in the WRC. Recently, a bag of potatoes and a container of sour cream were a great hit. Hungry women could pop a potato into the microwave and, voila, lunch! Other snack food is often available. A refrigerator is available to store personal lunches.

Two computers are available so women using the WRC have easy access in a non-threatening space.

The credit for much of this activity goes to Rosemarie Freeland, WRC Coordinator and Outreach Advocate. She knows firsthand about what women experience going back to school while at the same time struggling with issues such as childcare, single parenting, disabilities, housing, unemployment, welfare, transportation, to mention just a few.

Women in the WRC

Because she is in the WRC often, she meets many women and is in a position to connect with them. She can refer them to her network of community and college resources for challenges facing returning women students.

Special Programs and workshops are offered regularly in the WRC.

Workshops have included "How to Buy an Inexpensive Computer," "Women's Drumming for Stress Reduction," "Let's Talk about Racism," "Let's Talk about Change," "Nutrition," and "Health and Fitness".

The Fitness Center Coordinator ran some sessions for and with women regarding body image and self esteem.

The Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation funds have been especially helpful in women's individual emergencies. In the case of transportation needs, the purchase of gasoline cards and bus tokens have been provided. Supermarket gift certificates have been useful in some situations. WIT also purchased a few tickets to the GCC Dance Department Concert so women who were able to arrange it could have a night out!

This Women's Resource Center is a happening place and Greenfield Community College women are finding it a source of support and care. Demand is increasing for the services available through the WRC.
