This is a follow-up discussion on the PARCC Initiative and related initiatives with area high school guidance counselors and college staff and representatives from the Department of Higher Education and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This meeting is sponsored and facilitated by the PARCC Campus Contact for the Western Massachusetts higher education institutions, with funding provided by the Department of Higher Education. It is follow up to a meeting last November at Greenfield Community College in which an overview of PARCC and the Common Core was provided for the staff in both the high schools and colleges who will be dealing directly with students and parents who will need guidance on what it all means. Lunch will be served.
We will have an update on PARCC, now that the field testing has begun, from Dr. Susan Lane, Senior Director of Alignment and Engagement for the Department of Higher Education and Susan Wheltle, Director of Literacy and Humanities, from the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. Our DHE and DESE representatives will also answer questions and provide as much information has they have available to them at this time. They are invested in hearing your questions and concerns as well.
Following this update we will provide participants the opportunity to talk with their local counterparts over lunch to continue the conversation about implications and to foster connections that will support all of us, students, parents, colleagues as the initiative unfolds.
Not sure what PARCC is? For those that were not able to attend the November meeting, we will hold an optional PARCC 101 session from 10:00 – 10:45. This brief session is designed to give an overview of the Common Cores State Standards and PARCC, how we in Massachusetts arrived here and what we can likely expect for next steps in the PARCC initiative.
Please plan to join us for a status update, an opportunity to ask questions and to participate in discussion with your high school and college colleagues about the implications for you, as the staff who will be dealing directly with students and parents seeking guidance on what it all means. Please RSVP below.
