So who’s the new kid on the block? Well, actually he’s not so new. Many of you know Mike Kocsmiersky from GCC gatherings and from work in the PV field. Now we are pleased to have him as our new RE/EE faculty member who will also teach courses in the Engineering.
Mike has always had a passion for energy conservation and solar energy generation. He has lived his professional life following that passion, becoming a certified energy manager, an energy auditor, and a solar energy specialist. He holds a BS degree in solid state physics from the University of Rochester. He has also studied solar thermal processes at UMASS Lowell, AutoCAD at Wentworth Institute of Technology, advanced photovoltaics at Solar Energy International, and three building energy analysis tracks from the Building Performance Institute. Over his career, Mike has serviced several hundred solar thermal and PV systems, actively participated in many installations, and designed hundreds of standard solar thermal and PV systems. After teaching PV at four community colleges and developing the PV training lab for Springfield Technical Community College, Mr. Kocsmiersky attained IREC certification as a PV instructor. He has also partnered with many grant applicants, as a business leader, to help structure different green job training programs. Mr. Kocsmiersky has taught professional development seminars for the IEEE, Gateway Community College, Greenfield Community College, Half Moon Seminars, Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, Center for Ecological Technology, Springfield Technical Community College, Heatspring Institute, building code officials, electricians, and teachers. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have Mike bring his expertise to our program!
