Spring 2009 enrollment going on now
Thank you for your interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency courses at Greenfield Community College. GCC’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency courses are supported by the Sustainable Practices in Construction grant, funded by the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund. This funding allows GCC to provide credit or credit-free instruction and books at a substantially reduced cost to students, enables the program to expand offerings, and equips labs with necessary technical supplies. These grant-supported courses are in high demand and therefore require that all interested participants complete a pre-registration form. Completing this pre-registration form does not constitute enrollment in grant-supported courses.
Priority will be given to:
- Students enrolled in the Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency certificate program at GCC. If you are currently matriculated in the RE/EE program, contact your advisor directly to register.
- Massachusetts residents actively employed in construction, renewable energy, energy efficiency or related fields.
If you do not meet these requirements, your name will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified by January 15, 2009 if seats become available.
Credit vs. credit-free option
Many of the courses offered in this program offer a credit or credit-free option (see below). Any student is eligible to take the course for credit, and individual courses can be taken with or without applying for admission to GCC. Participation in the certificate program requires that you take courses for credit. Most RE/EE credit courses have prerequisites that require students to sit for the College Placement Test in math and/or English or document placement test or coursework elsewhere. It is the responsibility of applicants to demonstrate that they meet these pre-requisites to finalize their enrollment in credit courses. Please contact the GCC Testing Center (413-775-1147) or the Office of Admissions (413-775-1801) to arrange to take the college placement test or provide college transcripts that demonstrate proficiency.
The credit-free seats in these courses are reserved for students who are Massachusetts residents actively working in the construction, renewable energy, energy efficiency or closely related sectors. Participation does not require that students take a placement test, although students are encouraged to do so if they are uncertain about whether their skills in math and/or English are adequate for course content. In the credit-free section of the course guide, students will find a description of the math and/or English skills recommended for successful participation in the course. Students choosing the credit-free option may (and are encouraged to) participate in all of the activities, assignments and assessments of the course, and may receive an unofficial grade from the instructor. Criteria for "successful completion" of the credit-free option is outlined in each course syllabus and, if met, will earn the student a certificate of completion for that course. Credit-free courses may not be used toward fulfillment of certificate or degree requirements at the College.
Final decisions on course enrollment for spring 2009 will be made by January 15th.
