Raymond Godin '75 and '94 - Fire Chief
Ray Godin decided to give college a try at GCC a few years after high school thorugh the "Exploratory Program," an alternative education program. Ray was interested in the media as a profession and focused his coursework on that goal. He remembers how helpful his professors were to him during this time on GCC's "old campus" in downtown Greenfield.
While working on his Liberal Arts degree in 1974, he took a job at the new department at WCAT in Orange, and then later became news director at WHAI in Greenfield. While covering fire department news around the county, he developed an interest in firefighting and signed on as a call firefighter in Turners Falls in 1977. He then joined the fire department full time in 1985, which led to his second associates degree at GCC, in Fire Science, in 1994. He never left the field and now serves as Chief of the Turners Falls Fire Department.
