Anne Wiley, Ed.D. - Psychology & Women's Studies

Anne WileyDr. Anne Wiley has been teaching at GCC for over 30 years. She teaches courses in Psychology and Women's Studies such as Principles of Psychology, Pychology of Women, Psychology of Oppression and the interdisciplinary course Introduction to Women's Studies. She participated in one of the first national women's studies curriculum transformation project conferences at Wheaton College in 1983. Since then she has been actively involved in bringing women's studies to GCC.

From the first few course offerings in 1986, to promoting Ford Foundation grant to develop the Women's Studies program option, Anne has been committed to integrating women's and gender studies into our curriculum. Additionally, Anne helped develop the Women's Resource Center at GCC. In the last four years, Anne has been instrumental in bringing a student, staff, and community production of the Vagina Monologues to GCC as part of the worldwide VDAY campaign to end violence against women and girls. In 2007, the production raised over $5000 for NELCWIT and the GCC Women's Resource Center.

Currently, Anne is the Social Sciences chairperson, overseeing the liberal arts course offerings in social sciences. These courses focus on social justice and equity to develop capable citizens who are empowered with knowledge, skills, and attitudes to make informed and responsible decisions in a diverse and interdependent world. She continues to promote curriculum development that engages students in activism, participation in citizenship and becoming future leaders.

Additionally, she also coordinated a past New England Women's Studies Conference at GCC and is a long time adjunct professor in women's studies at Keene State College. She was also instrumental in creating the Women's Resource Center, which serves non traditional women students. Anne received her BA from LeMoyne College in Syracuse NY and her masters in education from SUNY at Buffalo. Anne has her Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts and has two articles published in Women's Studies Quarterly. Anne is a former board member of NELCWIT (New England Learning Center for Women In Transition) and the founding president of Friends of NELCWIT, where she is a strong advocate for promoting non violence in our community.
