Chet Jordan, Ph.D. is a higher education administrator and scholar. His research focuses on inequities in the American postsecondary system, specifically in the community college sector which serves the nation’s most marginalized students. In 2018, Dr. Jordan was awarded, along with a team of colleagues at the City University of New York, a $500K grant by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to study the humanities transfer student pipeline and to identify areas of policy reform necessary to reduce attrition. Dr. Jordan was also a Senior Researcher for the Transfer Opportunity Project (TOP) which was funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to study leaks in the transfer pipeline. Dr. Jordan has taught extensively at the undergraduate and graduate level. In 2012, he joined the Founding Faculty at Guttman Community College, building from the ground-up an experimental associate’s-degree granting institution aimed at substantially increasing completion rates. Additionally, Dr. Jordan has taught doctoral courses on higher education governance and leadership at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Dr. Jordan is the author and co-author of three books and an expert in issues of higher education policy. The first book, CUNY’s First Fifty Years: Triumphs and Ordeals of a People’s University, details the history of the City University of New York in a series of vignettes that focus on each decade of the university’s evolution from 1960 to the present. The second, Post-Recession Community College Reform: A Decade of Experimentation, presents a series of successful community college reform efforts that resulted from the Great Recession. Jordan’s most recent book, Establishing an Experimental Community College in the United States: Challenges, Successes, and Implications for Higher Education, narrates the planning and operational stages of Guttman Community College and how lessons can be drawn from the college’s early history that might inform other systems looking to create reform at-scale. Dr. Jordan is currently the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs at Greenfield Community College. He is proud to lead a dynamic team of educators and student support professionals who have deep ties to the local communities the college serves.
