Strengthening Student Success through Improved Student Information Management Services and Advising
Summary: GCC proposes to improve student
success through two major strategies. First, GCC will develop a new technology-based
Student
Information Management System, which will include user-friendly electronic
access to student transcripts, degree audit systems, electronic early warning
of failure notification, goal-setting systems, career and interest inventories,
new student orientation, and electronic registration, among other features.
Second, once the SIMS is in place, faculty and staff advisors will be trained
in making use of the data available to provide proactive, responsive, and
thorough advising and intake services to students so that GCC student outcomes
will improve to the national average.

A Cooperative Online Learning Network for Rural, Placebound Students
Summary: A joint project with Berkshire Community College. BCC and GCC are making significant changes in the area of information technology infrastructure, faculty development, and student online services in order to improve student access and retention for placebound and other at risk students at each college. Both schools have a shared need for improved student outreach, access, and retention through enhanced distance learning and online advisement services options. Both serve rural, placebound student populations who can become "at risk" students due to economic or other reasons. Title III support seeks to bring more access to students through online distance learning options, so that degree programs and transfer credits can be earned anytime, anyplace. Read more.
