This introductory 3-day course will prepare you for becoming a Fiber Optics Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Technician. This training combines classroom instruction and hands-on lab exercises (50%) to prepare participants to take and pass the written and hands-on CFOT exam given the last day of the workshop. Participants will learn fiber optic basics, fiber optic components, installation, testing and standards. Lab exercises include basic cable handling, termination and splicing plus basic insertion loss testing with source and power meter and introduction to OTDRs. In addition to a Certificate of Completion from Greenfield Community College, the course cost includes lunch, study materials, text book, CD, exam fee and certificate. Pre-requisites include: have a working knowledge of computers, be able to see and identify small items, and to speak and understand the English language.
