Greenfield Community College’s World Languages Department is offering a special course opportunity this fall that will help students fulfill several requirements. If you will need to take College Reading Strategies (COL 090), you should consider taking it in the setting of our Learning Community. A Learning Community is a team-taught interdisciplinary offering with assignments that focus on a common theme.
Our Learning Community is a combination of COL 090 and Elementary Spanish I (SPA 101), allowing you to meet the developmental prerequisite for many other courses at the college AND earn college credit for a world language. This is a particularly good option if you are considering transfer to a four-year school, as it will allow you to start a future language requirement here at GCC in a supportive community of learners. Please consider this opportunity for this fall!
- COL 090 C – Tues/Thurs 10:00-11:40 with Mary Ellen Kelly
- SPA 101 D – Tues/Thurs 12:30-2:45 with Charlotte Gifford
Students will learn the reading and study strategies necessary to be successful in college while learning to communicate in Spanish across cultures. Books, poetry, articles, films, and other course material will focus on the Latino experience.
Research indicates that second language study reinforces the developmental process in both languages. This learning community offers students a unique opportunity to begin their academic career in a bilingual setting.
This option will be a particularly good choice for students who hope to transfer to a four-year institution, as it will allow them to start a future language requirement here at GCC in a supportive learning community.
