{"id":93,"date":"2025-08-07T17:24:23","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T17:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gcc.mass.edu\/advising\/?page_id=93"},"modified":"2025-12-31T20:36:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T20:36:39","slug":"academic-standing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.gcc.mass.edu\/advising\/faqs\/academic-standing\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Standing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Appeal of Academic Suspension or Dismissal<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p><b>Academic Suspension<\/b> prevents you from enrolling in classes for one full fall or spring semester.<\/p>\n<p><b>Academic Dismissal\u00a0<\/b>prevents you from future enrollment at GCC.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the steps below to appeal Academic Suspension or Academic Dismissal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li>Submit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.gcc.mass.edu\/register\/student-academic-appeal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academic Standing appeal form<\/a>. These appeals are reviewed by the Academic Standing Working Group. Your appeal should address the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Tell us about what you are like when you are at your best.\u00a0What helps you feel focused, confident, and productive?<\/li>\n<li>What has impacted your ability to be academically successful at GCC in previous semesters? Depending on your experience these might be academic, personal or other challenges.<\/li>\n<li>If you have taken time away from GCC, what steps have you taken to prepare for a successful return to your studies?<\/li>\n<li>What academic and non-academic resources or strategies do you plan to use to support your success at GCC?<\/li>\n<li>What are your short and long-term academic goals? For example earning a degree, transferring to another program, learning particular skills, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Once your letter of appeal has been received you will meet with a member of the Academic Standing Working Group to review your appeal. These meetings can be in-person or virtual.
