Undecided about your major? Unsure about your career path? Want to make the most out of your time at GCC?
We can help with that.
Compass advisors provide each undecided student a personalized advising experience that takes each individual’s interests and goals into account. When working with a Compass advisor, students will develop personalized maps to graduation, transfer opportunities, and careers!
First-Year Experience Courses
Two 1-credit courses are offered in both the Fall and Spring semesters to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in college and prepare for what comes after GCC. Undecided students are encouraged to take both courses during their first-year: one in the Fall, and one in the Spring.
College Strategies (HUD 128)
For students who want to strengthen their skills as they transition or return to college. Topics covered include GCC resources, study skills, time management, and goal setting with emphasis on setting priorities.
Career Exploration & Planning (HUD 135)
For students who want to start exploring next steps, whether that means finding a job or transferring to a four-year school. Topics covered include self-assessment and reflection, career information gathering, transfer options and school research, and goal setting with emphasis on short and long term planning.
College is about more than just going to class. Peer mentors are students helping other students figure out how to navigate GCC and do what needs to be done to survive (and thrive) in college. They can offer advice about time management, career and transfer exploration, GCC resources, and more!
Compass workshops are an opportunity to hone the skills you need to be successful in college. Regular workshops are held throughout the semester on topics like time management, preparing for registration, exploring majors and careers, and more!
