SUMMARY:Carrie Baker: A History of Women's Suffrage
DESCRIPTION:Generations of women fought for your right to vote\; now we mus
t defend that vote—and use it! First proposed by the 1848 Seneca Falls D
eclaration of Sentiments\, women's demand for the right to vote was contro
versial—even scandalous in some quarters. Suffragists fought for 72 year
 s to achieve the 19th Amendment in 1920\, but astonishingly\, women's voti
ng rights are once again up for debate in some quarters. In this talk\, Sm
ith College Professor of American Studies Carrie Baker explains the histor
y and current challenges to women's voting rights and how women are fighti
ng to maintain our right to vote. Free and open to the public\, RSVP reque
sted. Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters.\n\n[gravityform id="93"
