Law Day 2019: Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society

The Franklin County Bar Association, Franklin County Justice Center and the Northwestern District Attorney’s office presents Franklin County Law Day 2019, featuring a panel discussion on free speech with Karen Brown, New England Public Radio senior reporter; Shaheen Pasha, journalist and senior lecturer in the UMass-Amherst Journalism Department; and Joan Livingston, incoming editor of the Greenfield Recorder. Moderated by Greenfield Community College Dean of Humanities Leo Hwang. Free and open to the public.

Law Day is an annual event sponsored by the American Bar Association in late April or May that aims to educate the public about the role of law and the legal profession in society. President Dwight Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to its judicial system. In 1961, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.
