Set Images as a Banner for Sections

Avoid Copyright Violations. Flickr:creative commons offers images free to the public. Be sure to attribute the artist for any image used.

Option #1 –

  1. Turn editing on
  2. Click on the Edit summary gear to the left of the section
  3. In the toolbar, click Insert/edit image icon then Find or upload an image…
  4. In the Image URL field paste the URL for the image.  The image should appear in the Preview window
  5. Click Insert
  6. Follow steps for adjusting, positioning image, setting the image as hyperlink and adding text below the image.

Option #2 – Add a Banner Image to a Section in Moodle

  1. Turn editing on
  2. Click on the Edit summary gear to the left of the section
  3. In the toolbar, click Insert/edit image icon then Find or upload an image…
  4. The File Picker window pops-up
  5. Browse for your image on your desktop  Note: acceptable image formats are TIF, JPG, PNG and GIF
  6. Remove your name from the Author field if the image is not an original and attribute the image to the creator
  7. Click Upload
  8. Complete Image description field
  9. Click Insert
  10. Follow steps for adjusting, positioning image, setting the image as hyperlink and adding text below the image.

After the image has been added

Adjust Image

  1. Click on the image so handles are showing on each of the four corners
  2. Click on and hold one of the corner handles and press simultaneously, the Ctrl-key for PC users; cmd-key or command-key for MAC users.
  3. Pull the corner towards the center of the picture to reduce the image proportionally.
  4. Suggested image sizes: Thumbnail 150 x 150 or within that range such as 145 x 178.If the image is on the web, the image itself can be set-up as a hyperlink.

 Positioning Image

  1. Click on the image so handles are showing on each of the four corners
  2. In the toolbar, select either Align left, Align center, Align right

Make Image a Hyperlink to a Site

  1. Click on the image so handles are showing on each of the four corners
  2. In the toolbar select the Insert/edit link icon
  3. Paste your copied URL into the Link URL field
  4. Set Target to Open in new window
  5. Add the name of the site in Title field
  6. Click Insert
  7. Click Save changes.

Add Text Below Image

  1. Place cursor to the right of the image and hit Enter or Return
  2. Type the desired text
  3. Highlight the text to change text color, size, appearance and alignment
  4. Click Save changes
