GCC celebrates the arts!<\/strong> Join us for our annual evening of performances and the opening reception for our annual Art Student Exhibit, dedicated this year to artist and professor Paul Lindale (1965-2026)<\/span>. Featuring a free preview performance of The Laramie Project<\/em> (4:30-6:30 p.m.), music by students in the Contemporary Music Studies program (7-9 p.m.) and art student reception in the South Gallery (7-9 p.m.). Come enjoy great art, performances, free food and good company!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mass Incarceration from Inside<\/a><\/p>\n

Tuesday April 21 - 3:00pm<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

What specific American factors contribute to so many people being locked up in “the land of the free?” Is crime simply worse in America than in other countries\u2014and if so, why? How can American society shift its values and practices to decrease crime and the incidence of incarceration? And can some of that transformative work be effectively done in carceral settings? Master’s student Kylee Monkiewicz presents “The Land of the Free? Teaching and Learning About Mass Incarceration from Inside,” a reflection on personal and social accountability, the two million lives on hold in American jails and prisons and the worthy human effort toward perfecting one’s self in an imperfect world. Monkiewicz studies education and social Justice and equity at Boston University and teaches History of Incacereration in America at the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction. Refreshments provided. RSVP requested.<\/p>\n

Local youth have paired with local older adults to make short YouTube films that will be screened at our intergenerational film festival\u2014featuring dinner and a talk-back where the stars of the shows will discuss the bonds and friendships that have grown as a result.
