Due to a reduction in library staffing and the COVID-19 campus closure, the library will not be circulating telescopes for the Fall 2020 semester. We hope to offer this service again in the future.
Telescopes are available for current GCC faculty, staff, and students with library cards in good standing. They can be checked out for 14 days with no renewals. A photo ID is required at time of checkout. The telescopes lent out by the Nahman-Watson Library are to be used for viewing astronomical events, learning about our solar system and the stars, and for fun.
You can request a telescope via the library catalog. If one is not immediately available, a hold will be placed. Holds are filled in the order they are received.
- The Nahman-Watson Library and Greenfield Community College are not responsible for any bodily damage caused by use of the telescope (i.e. blindness ensuing from looking at the sun through telescope) or any legal action from using the telescope improperly or illegally.
- Must be returned in person with the lens caps in place to a library staff member during regular library hours and student must remain during the check in procedure. DO NOT USE LIBRARY BOOK DROP.
- Failure to return, loss, damage or tampering with the telescope and/or its accessories will result in a bill for up to $200 for replacement and a hold on your college account which can impact registration, grades, transcripts, diplomas and certificates until the Library account is satisfied.
- The safety and care of the telescope is the sole responsibility of the borrower upon check out. Do not leave the telescope unattended. Do not leave the telescope in areas where the temperatures are extreme (hot or cold). Do not lend the telescope to anyone, including but not limited to family, friends, other students, etc.
