Local Businesses Support GCC Renovations

February 6, 2012

Students who gather in Greenfield Community College's newly renovated Math Studio to study or receive extra help from Math Department faculty can thank Greenfield Savings Bank for the light-filled, spacious room fitted with the latest technology to support learning. And GCC Science Department students can look forward to a similarly enhanced area that encourages collaborative and supportive learning when the Sandri Science Studio is complete later this year.

Both the Greenfield Savings Bank Math Studio and the Sandri Energy Companies Science Studio were made possible by gifts from these local businesses who are investing in GCC to teach the skills these companies know their future workforce will require. In addition, the GCC President's Conference Room is now named the Greenfield Cooperative Bank President's Conference Room, thanks to their gift that will support continued renovations to academic areas on the main campus.

"This college and this community are fortunate to have locally-owned, successful businesses that understand the value of community college and that are partners in helping us provide engaged teaching and learning that promotes student success," said GCC President Robert Pura. "I am so appreciative of Greenfield Savings Bank, Sandri Energy Companies and Greenfield Cooperative Bank for their leadership in helping GCC continue its work on the physical improvements to our campus that will contribute to the learning and success of our students."

Following the completion of the GCC Core renovation and addition project last summer, which resulted in a beautifully designed, highly functional space for GCC's Library, Dining Commons and Student Support Services offices such as Enrollment Management and Student Life, the college turned its eye to the areas students enter next: study studios and classrooms. Thanks to the Major Gift donations from Greenfield Savings Bank, Sandri Energy Companies and Greenfield Cooperative Bank, the Math and Science Studios will be state-of-the-art study areas designed for continuous supportive engagement between students and faculty, and classrooms are being renovated to provide fully accessible, modern learning environments.
