As a Liberal Arts Social Sciences major at GCC, Jasmyn Atsalis-Gogel has carved out a unique academic path with a focus on psychology and a minor in wildlife biology, blending her interests in human behavior and the natural world. For her, education is an opportunity to dive deeper into subjects that spark her curiosity.<\/p>\n
Her passion for learning led her to the GCC Honors Scholar Program, a decision she describes as both strategic and inspiring. \u201cI was drawn to apply for the Honors Scholar Program as a way to structure a deeper dive into the work we were doing in my class,\u201d she explains. \u201cIt gave me the excuse and motivation to lean into learning about a subject that I find fascinating.\u201d<\/p>\n
With strong support from faculty and staff, she was able to focus on her research and academic goals without being bogged down by logistics. \u201cThe program is an opportunity to deepen your studies and push yourself to produce professional work, as well as show others that you are capable and willing to go above the necessary,\u201d Jasmyn reflects. \u201cIt was a valuable experience that I found very rewarding,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n
Beyond the Honors Scholar Program, Jasmyn praises the GCC\u2019s welcoming atmosphere and the dedication of its staff. \u201cThe staff are invested in the students and community, and they go out of their way to create and share resources,\u201d she says. That sense of community and encouragement has played an important role in her academic journey.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Jasmyn is preparing to transfer to a local four-year college to complete her Bachelor\u2019s degree. Her long-term goal is to earn a Master\u2019s degree and become a licensed clinical therapist.
