Student engagement enhances the educational experience, cultivates leadership skills, and demonstrates a commitment to the college\u2019s mission of academic excellence and the nursing programs philosophy to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe and quality patient centered care.<\/p>\n<p>Nursing students can make significant contributions through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Student Senate<\/strong> \u2014 Advocating for student needs and contributing to policy discussions<\/li>\n<li><strong>College Governance<\/strong>\u2014 Serving on the college Student Senate and its committees, including:\n<ul>\n<li>College Council \u2014 Overall college governance structure<\/li>\n<li>Professional Development Committee \u2014 Enhancing faculty and staff skills<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum and Learning Outcomes Committee \u2014 Developing, implementing, and evaluating academic learning and outcomes<\/li>\n<li>Diversity Committee \u2014 Promoting equity and inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Committee on Academic Policies (CAP) \u2014 Reviewing college academic programs, courses and policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Student Clubs and Organizations<\/strong> \u2014 Participating in or leading groups that promote professional development, community service and peer networking<\/li>\n<li><strong>College Orientation Leaders<\/strong> \u2014 Assisting new students with their transition into college life by sharing insights and fostering a supportive community<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nursing Program Development and Evaluation<\/strong> \u2014 Nursing students participate directly in program improvement through:\n<ul>\n<li>Student Representatives \u2014 Two representatives from each cohort meet with faculty monthly to provide feedback on program performance, policies, and student experiences. Meets monthly.<\/li>\n<li>Advisory Committee \u2014 Offering input on program direction, curriculum innovation and alignment with industry standards. Meets once a year.<\/li>\n<li>Policy and Handbook Development \u2014 Contributing to updates and revisions that reflect current student and academic needs. Meets once a month<\/li>\n<li>Pinning Committee \u2014 Planning and organizing the nursing pinning ceremony, a significant milestone event. Meets once a month, then more frequently in final semester<\/li>\n<li>Peer Tutoring and Mentorship \u2014 Supporting fellow students academically and socially. Peer tutors meet on a scheduled basis. Mentors will greet incoming students at orientation and then as scheduled or use text, email, or calls as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Recruitment Activities \u2014 Participating in outreach and informational events to attract prospective nursing students. Meets as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Course Surveys \u2014 Providing anonymous feedback on course objectives and outcomes to inform curriculum development<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Surveys \u2014 Providing post-graduation feedback to inform program effectiveness and continuous improvement. Course surveys are sent six months after program completion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By engaging in these opportunities, nursing students embody leadership, service, and advocacy, which are core to both the nursing profession and the college\u2019s mission.
