{"id":780,"date":"2026-07-07T14:43:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T18:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gcc.mass.edu\/xnursing\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=780"},"modified":"2026-07-09T11:04:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T15:04:52","slug":"admission","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.gcc.mass.edu\/nursing\/docs\/handbook\/adn\/admission\/","title":{"rendered":"Admission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In additional to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gcc.mass.edu\/nursing\/docs\/handbook\/general-policies\/admission\/\">general admission and enrollment requirements<\/a> for all nursing programs, the following apply to Associate Degree Nursing applicants.<\/p>\n<h3>General Admission Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Applicants to this program must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be 18 years old at the time of program enrollment<\/li>\n<li>Be a current or new GCC student\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New<\/strong> students \u2014 Submit a general GCC admission application and select <strong>Nursing<\/strong> as your intended major; once accepted, you will be placed into Allied Health Degree\/RN intent (ALH)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Current<\/strong> students \u2014 Submit a change of major form to <strong>Allied Health\/ADN Intent (ALH)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (current students)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit official high school transcript<\/strong> or HiSET<strong><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>\/GED<strong><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> transcript with graduation date<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit official college transcripts<\/strong> from any previously attended schools\n<ul>\n<li>Transcript Deadline: [events_list blog=&#8221;376&#8243; category=&#8221;90053&#8243; limit=&#8221;1&#8243;]#_EVENTDATES[\/events_list]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meet math requirements<\/strong> by completing <strong>one<\/strong> (1) of the following with a C+ or better within seven (7) years prior to entering the program:\n<ul>\n<li>MAT 120 Math Problem Solving in STEM (or equivalent at another college)<\/li>\n<li>MAT 096 Intermediate Algebra (or equivalent at another college)<\/li>\n<li>MAT 014 Preparatory Course for Statistics (or equivalent at another college)<\/li>\n<li>ACCUPLACER placement out of MAT 120 or MAT 096<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complete English Composition I<\/strong> (or equivalent at another college) with a grade of C or better<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complete ten credits<\/strong> from the list below including one four-credit biology course:<br \/>\n<table class=\"table table-striped table-condensed table-responsive pre-reqs\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>BIO 215<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Anatomy &amp; Physiology I<\/td>\n<td>4 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C+ required within 7 years*\u2020<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>BIO 216<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Anatomy &amp; Physiology II<\/td>\n<td>4 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C+ required within 7 years*\u2020<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>BIO 205<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Microbiology<\/td>\n<td>4 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C+ required within 7 years*<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>ENG 112, 114 or 116<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>English Comp II<\/td>\n<td>3 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C required<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>SOC 101<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Principles of Sociology<\/td>\n<td>3 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C required<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>PSY 101<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Principles of Psychology<\/td>\n<td>3 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C required<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>PSY 217<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Human Growth &amp; Development<\/td>\n<td>3 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C required within 7 years<sup>\u2021<\/sup><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\"><strong>Humanities elective<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Any course coded AHS, ART, ASL, DAN, ENG (excluding ENG 090, ENG 094 and English Comp I and II), FLK, FRE, GGY, HIS, HUM, LAT, MUS, PHI, PCS, SPA or THE<\/em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>3 cr.<\/td>\n<td>C required<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<tfoot>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"4\">* Applicants may take a currency exam to satisfy this requirement if the course was successfully completed more than seven years prior to beginning the program<br \/>\n\u2020 Biology I (BIO 126) is a pre-requisite for Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (BIO 215 and BIO 216), but it is <em>not<\/em> required to apply to the program; students who feel that they have a strong science background from high school or college may choose to take a challenge exam for Biology I to meet the BIO 215\/216 pre-requisite (all accepted ADN students who do not have BIO 215 before entering the program must take BIO 126 prior to enrollment)<br \/>\n\u2021 College Board CLEP test required if course was successfully completed more than seven years ago<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tfoot>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Successfully complete the Test for Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)<\/strong> with a composite score of 60% within two years prior to beginning the program. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atitesting.com\/teas\">atitesting.com<\/a> for more information about the exam, to purchase study materials and to register for a testing date. Students may attempt the test more than once, but <em>no more than three times per application cycle<\/em>.
