Orientation FAQs


What is orientation?

Orientation consists of programs designed to help students acquire the information and resources that lead to a successful start in college. These programs include an overview of academic skills and options as well as student support, activities, and technology resources. The on-campus programs also provide an opportunity to start building relationships and positive connections with faculty and staff. A variety of program formats and times are available, including an online option.

Do I have to attend orientation?

Yes. Orientation is a required program for new degree-seeking students and students who have been away from the college for 2 or more years. Students who do not meet the orientation requirement (on campus or online) will not be allowed to register for the next semester.

Do I have to go to all of the orientation events?

Yes! In order to receive credit on your student account for participating in orientation, you must complete participate in all parts of orientation.

What should I bring with me?

Students should bring attend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes to allow for easy movement to different venues. It is also advised that you bring a device or paper that allows you to take notes.

What should I do if I want to change my orientation date?

It is no problem to change your date. Just return to the registration page on this website and submit a new registration.

Will I get a campus tour?

Campus tours are always offered at orientation by our orientation leaders. Tours are optional. If you are interested in a tour please review the schedule for your orientation date and join us at the designated meeting time and location.

Where will I go for check-in?

Check-in for orientation occurs in the Main building in the 1st floor lobby. Please enter through the primary glass entrance. You can use the stair case or the elevator to the right to access the 1st floor lobby.

Where should I park for orientation?

Parking for orientation is available in the student lots. ollow the directional signage along the driveway and at the campus rotary. Primary parking will occur in parking lots A and B.

What do I do if I require specific accommodations during an orientation session?

Please inform us if you require any specific accommodations. At the end of the registration form there will be an open text box that you can use to describe your requested accommodation. Please use this space so we can plan accordingly.

When do I get my ID card?

The Office of Student Activities and Community Service will be able to issue student identification cards to all new students who are already registered for courses. Please review the schedule for your orientation date to see when the office is available to process your ID.

Do I need to pay for orientation?

There is no additional cost for orientation. Orientation is a student program that is covered by student activity fees.

When will I receive materials and be able to register for orientation?

Registration for orientation is available at the start of open registration for each upcoming term.

When should I register for orientation?

We strongly encourage you to register for orientation as soon as possible and definitely as soon as you have registered for your courses. The registration site closes the week before orientation so that we can finalize numbers. Please do not wait until the last minute to sign up!

How do I register for orientation?

To register for orientation, please use the registration form on this website. Once you complete the form and submit your information you have completed your registration process.

Can family members attend with me?

Family members are certainly welcome to attend orientation. It is important to note that space is limited and most of our content is geared directly to new students. We will be offering a family workshop opportunity during orientation. We are asking students to indicate if they will have a family member join them during the registration process so that we can plan accordingly.

What if none of the available dates work for me?

We do our best to schedule a variety of dates, times, and formats to meet the many needs of our diverse student body. Still we realize that the options that we provide may not work with your schedule. If you truly cannot make one of our sessions, a hold will be placed on your student record early in the semester. This hold will give you access to an online course where you will be able complete orientation. When you have completed the course, the hold can be removed from you student account.

Are meals provided during the sessions?

Yes! Refreshments and meals are provided at each of our orientation programs.

I have an Orientation Hold. What should I do?

In order for your hold to be removed, you must complete the Orientation Moodle Course. The Moodle course is comprised of informative video content and takes more than an hour to complete. We have broken the content into smaller modules so that you can complete work as you have time and availability. In order to remove your hold we review the activity logs of each student and take note of how much time was spent in each module. Students who do not spend the necessary amount of time in the course may NOT have their holds removed. Student who do spend necessary time viewing the video content will have their hold removed within 48 hours upon completion.
