\n Last month the crafting club celebrated Black History Month with a painting project inspired by trailblazing African American artist Alma Thomas. Alma was the first graduate of Howard University`s art program, and carved a space for herself in a predominantly white and male-dominated art world in the `60s. She was the first Black woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She was a leader in the color field painting style and Incorporated nature and the cosmos into her work.

Participants made miniature Alma- inspired abstract paintings using her signature style.

\n We have so much to be grateful for! Thanks to our Student Activities Council for helping to plan today`s Friendsgiving event! Thanks to our kitchen staff for preparing a delicious meal for close to 400 people! Thanks to Natalie and all of our creative community members for hosting an amazing craft fair! Thanks to our permaculture club for gleaning and giving away many pounds of local vegetables. And thank you to everyone who came and shared a meal in community today. \n Our Permaculture Club actually grew out of the Permaculture Installation class and now, that same class is installing new raised beds using lumber purchased by the club. \ud83c\udf31 It\u2019s amazing to see the cycle continue as new students learn and contribute to making our campus more sustainable and beautiful.

Join us Wednesday at noon in S312 (our weekly meeting!) to help finish the beds and be part of this living example of regenerative education.

\n We kicked off our campus\/community read of "I Never Thought of it That Way" by M\u00f3nica Guzm\u00e1n today. Over the next two months, participants will read the book and discuss with a partner. We had great energy in the room today, and are looking forward to hearing what people take from the book to be better prepared to have "fearlessly curious" conversations.<\/span>\n <\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n \n \n
