At Plum, we are hungry for a clear voice, a fearless honesty, and a unique perspective.

We accept submissions of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, reviews, spoken word audio files, and will consider reprints from new, emerging, and established writers from western Massachusetts and southern Vermont.  Plum is published twice a year, in May and December.  Submissions are accepted year-round.

Special Edition

This spring Sequoia LeBreux will guest edit a special edition of Plum intent on examining femininity. What does it taste like? Feel like? What does it do to our bodies?

Alongside general submissions, we are seeking poetry, prose, and visual art exploring the themes of femininity or created by femmes.

A note about Creative Nonfiction

We encourage submissions of a variety of writing under the “creative nonfiction” heading, including personal essays, memoirs, persuasive essays, informative/journalistic essays, etc. as long as the writing adheres to the definition of creative nonfiction below.

Creative nonfiction […] is fact-based writing that […] has at heart an interest in enduring human values: foremost a fidelity to accuracy, to truthfulness.Carolyn Forche and Philip Gerard

Submission guidelines

All submissions should be in the form of a .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt or .pdf file, or an audio file format. If you have multiple submissions, please create separate files for each submission. For example, if you are submitting three poems, put each poem in its own file and attach three separate documents. Please do not include your name on any of the documents you submit. Name and contact info should be listed in the body of the email. Contest participants should indicate their age category on each page.
