We lost control of our hands
It started standing beside the drafting table
when after years of friendship
we first pressed our bodies together-
While our mouths overpowered, played seek and devour,
your T-square my protractor
Our hands self-possessed, quite unbeknownst to us,
were vigorously drafting, pencil nubs scratching
Soon after: the framing, the two-by-fours nailing,
the screwing and screwing and
All
That
Erecting
we making eyes through the beams, we sparking eager, we
dripping sweat
in the sawdust unseen
By halflight the install- we hang and smooth drywall
my dust mask your jab saw
Now a maze of partitions block our once open diction
Hide our rapture from the outside, hide our selves from each other
