Footsteps in the sand fade fast
As the tide rises and the ocean breeze
Pushes and pulls the waves.
The sun has long
since set, leaving
the sky streaked
with colors
That bleed into the velvety night
Grasses on windswept dunes tremble and
Make a dry whistling noise, a sort of woosh,
As the moon floats higher and higher to her place in the sky,
The silvery orb looking down on everything,
Glossy reflection turned blue in the water
As the ocean laps against the shore in a rhythmic downbeat
Bits of rock tumble and shake as the sea vibrates them
Creating a sound like fluctuating TV static
Shells slide through the surf
And kelp washes ashore, shushing everyone with a gentle chhhhhhh—
As the ocean slams into a rock, sending sand and water flying
Sending an explosion though the night
Erupting in a burst and
A spattering of droplets
A showering of light-refracting crystals
As the cacophony turns into a symphony
And everyone stops to listen to the melody
Haunting and beautiful and soothing,
Slowly getting softer and softer
As your eyes grow heavy and you drift off to sleep,
Ocean music still playing.
