The GCC Assembly is an internal shared governance body designed to give all campus community members—including faculty, staff, students, administrators, Foundation employees and contracted vendors—a direct voice in shaping college policies, procedures and systems. Operating under established bylaws through the Assembly Body, College Council and Standing Committees, the group meets at least three times per semester to foster open communication, encourage diverse discussions and collaboratively advance the quality of education and service GCC provides. College Council advises the GCC President on policy, resources, administration, and committee structures. Its members include the President, key administrators, committee chairs, union representatives, and a student delegate. Council business focuses on hearing committee updates and endorsing policy proposals before they go to the Assembly for ratification. The purview of the College Technology Committee includes issues related to college-wide information technology needs and the application of technology within the learning environment, including, but not limited to, the implementation of college-wide information systems, learning management systems, adaptive technology, the distribution of technology resources, and other technology related systems. The purview of the Committee on Learning Outcomes Assessment is to promote a culture of learning inquiry. The committee will monitor assessment of student learning outcomes - institutional, general education, program, course, and co-curricular, in both academic and non-academic systems - for the purpose of continuous improvement of successful and equitable learning for all students. The purview of the Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee includes issues and policy related to academic integrity; scholastic quality; curriculum development; and the evaluation and implementation of curricula and academic policy, including, but not limited to new academic programs, distance education, course offerings, graduation requirements, grading policies, and credit for life experience. The purview of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee includes advocating for and supporting inclusive and equitable practices and outcomes for students, faculty, and staff, as well as fostering growth of campus-wide understanding of and advocacy for diversity and justice. The purview of the Environmental Sustainability Committee is environmentally sustainable operations, campus-wide environmental awareness, ecological literacy in curricula as well as support for instructors to incorporate it, institutional responses to climate change, and advocacy for and promotion of activities focused on ecological protection and restoration. The committee works to infuse both academic and non-academic endeavors with an awareness of climate impact and best practices in sustainable operations. The purview of the Professional Development Committee is to support professional development opportunities for all Assembly members. The committee encourages development of appropriate PD activities to be offered, and ensures broad communication about PD opportunities and funding, in response to identified campus needs.
