Graduation & Commencement FAQs Related to COVID-19

We are excited for your participation in the 58th annual Greenfield Community College Commencement ceremony, taking place on Saturday, June 5! This event will be shorter than past commencement events with brief comments from President Yves Salomon-Fernandez and student speaker, Avery Gray Davidson-Carroll. Board of Trustees chair, Robbie Cohn will confer the degrees and Graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage as their name and degree are called by Chief Learning Officer, Mary Ellen Fydenkevez. The turning of the tassels will happen as a group near the end of the ceremony.  The Commencement Ceremony will be live streamed and the Pre-Recorded Virtual Commencement Ceremony will be available for viewing on the GCC YouTube channel beginning at 12pm.

Though the governor has opened the state significantly, we are still required to follow the Massachusetts guidelines for commencement ceremonies.  Please note the following:

  1. Check in begins at 11:15am, please bring your commencement ticket in hand along with completed health ATTESTATION FORM. Attestation forms will be needed for each of your guests. Graduates must enter the check in gate with their guests as a group.
  2. Graduates will be seated in pods with their guests and will be called up to the stage by rows. Graduates will not be seated in student groups.
  3. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times.
  4. There will not be a tent. Please be prepared for the possibility of rain. In the case of a severe weather event, commencement will be rescheduled for Sunday, June 6. Updates will be posted via the website and the weather line (413) 775-1010.
  5. The buildings will be closed for your use and to the public. Plan accordingly and bring water should you wish to have it. There will be porta toilets on site for public use.
  6. Please wear your cap and gown, and feel free to use your voices to convey your congratulations while maintaining social distance protocols. Please refrain from bringing confetti or releasing balloons.

Associate Degree Nursing Pinning will take place from 9am-10am.  Please arrive between 8:15am-8:55am.

The Traditional Commencement Ceremony will begin at 12pm.  Please arrive between 11:15am – 11:55am.

Graduates will be grouped and seated with their guests and separated by 10 feet from other groups.

Please note: No water will be provided at the event.
