Graduation & Commencement FAQs Related to COVID-19

What options do I have to celebrate my achievement of graduating from GCC this spring?
Saturday, June 13, 2020, 10am — Join us for a drive-through caravan celebration on GCC’s main campus. Decorate your car and show your GCC pride!
Saturday, December 12, 2020, 12pm — Formal commencement exercises at Greenfield High School

What is the difference between Commencement and graduation?
Graduation is when the college certifies that you have completed the requirements for your degree or certificate. Commencement is what we call the ceremony in which you participate in order to celebrate the completion of your degree or certificate.

When will I receive my diploma?
Students who have completed their degree or certificate requirements and applied to graduate will receive their diploma, diploma cover and tassel via mail in late June.  

Will I get my cap and gown?
Students who decide to participate in the commencement ceremony on December 12th will be invited to pick up their cap and gown at the rehearsal on Friday, December 11th at 5:30pm.

Is the drive-through celebration happening on June 13, 2020 our Commencement event?
This is not a formal Commencement event.  It is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation for all you have accomplished and to celebrate you.

Will I be getting my diploma at the drive-through celebration?
Diplomas will be mailed to graduates in mid- to late-June.

Will I be able to see and congratulate my fellow graduates at the drive-through event?
This event will require that graduates remain in their cars—it will be a procession of vehicles along a designated path that will be similar to a receiving line.

Will campus buildings be open for me to access bathrooms and get food?
None of the buildings will be open for use. 

When will I receive more information about the Commencement ceremony?
Communications regarding the December commencement event will be sent to your college email address in late September or first week of October.  

How do I order my cap and gown for Commencement?
You will be sent a communication by the first week of October asking if you plan on participating in Commencement; in that communication, you will be asked to place your cap and gown order.

When and where will the Greenfield Community College Commencement take place for spring 2020 graduates?
Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 12pm in the Greenfield High School auditorium.

Will there be a rehearsal?
Yes, rehearsal will take place on Friday, December 11th at 5:30pm in the Greenfield High School auditorium.

What if we are unable to gather in December?
The College will be reviewing the most recent data in order to decide if we need to postpone the December Commencement. If that is the case and we are unable to gather, you will be notified in mid-November of the new Commencement date.
