Commencement

When is Commencement?
Saturday, May 17, 2025 at noon.  You must arrive by 11:30.

Will commencement be canceled if there is bad weather?
Commencement is held under a tent.  If it rains it will be held as scheduled.  In the event that there is severe weather which would include high winds and thunder and lightning, commencement will be postponed to Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the same time. Check the GCC website for updates regarding inclement weather.

Do I need to reserve tickets for guests?
You do not need tickets for commencement and you may bring as many guests as you like. Students planning to walk in the ceremony must RSVP (and optionally reserve a cap and gown).

What if one of my guests has a disability and needs accommodations?
Sign Language interpreters are provided and the livestream will have captioning for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Should a guest require another accommodation, please email disabilityservices@gcc.mass.edu for assistance.

When is rehearsal for commencement?
Friday, May 16, 2025 from 5-6 p.m. in the Dining Commons.

What happens at rehearsal?
You will pick your cap, gown and tassel and a card with your name and degree that you will need to give when you walk across the stage so your name and degree or certificate achieved can be announced. You will also be oriented to how the event will run and where you need to be and when.

Is rehearsal mandatory?
Yes, unless you have extenuating circumstances such as a work commitment. In that case please email Sara Allred at allreds@gcc.mass.edu so that we know that you are coming and can have your cap and gown for you at the morning of Commencement.

What happens if I fail or get an incomplete in a class and end up not meeting my requirements for graduation?
In the event that you do not meet your graduation requirements you will still be able to walk in the commencement event. However, you will not receive your degree until you complete the rest of your requirements. GCC offers one Commencement event annually.

Will there be a professional photographer taking pictures? 
There will be a professional photographer at the event. Copies of photos taken as you move across the stage will be made available via a website.

Where should I tell my friends/family to park?
Parking is available on campus in any of the open lots. Parking will be available near the East Building entrance for those with disabilities. There will be signs and people to direct you when you arrive on campus.

What time can guests start arriving?
Guests should plan to arrive by no later than 11:45am to ensure they get a seat. Guests CAN begin arriving by 11 a.m.

Will commencement be live streamed?
Yes, commencement will be live streamed via YouTube.

Where/when will I get my diploma?
Your diploma will be digitally distributed via email and a physical copy send to your mailing address. Please make sure your mailing address is up-to-date in our records.
