The Future of Libraries The Future of Libraries Simmons University sponsors a three-student presentation “We Can Only Become What We Imagine: Taking Ownership Over Our Libraries’ Future Through a Social Informatics Lens.” Social informatics is the study of how technology impacts human behavior and vice versa. We, as librarians and information professionals, have a unique position of influence in this sphere—but only if we assert ourselves and make technology work FOR us. This session will discuss planned obsolescence and how we can reduce e-waste in libraries, how libraries and librarians can take power over our technological networks and how we can combat stereotypes and champion Black excellence in our collections.
