In recognition of Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month, join the GCC Office of Institutional Mission, Culture and Climate for a screening of the documentary "Borderland: The Line Within" on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m.-1:15 p.m. in Stinchfield Auditorium. The screening will be followed by discussion and free lunch for participants. Please RSVP: gccfor.me/borderland-rsvp

"Borderland: The Line Within" reveals how the U.S. immigration enforcement apparatus has evolved into a “border industrial complex,” exploiting vulnerabilities in immigrant communities for profit. The film interweaves first-person narratives of immigrants resisting deportation with data-driven analysis to show the human and systemic costs of migration policy.

We kicked off our campus/community read of "I Never Thought of it That Way" by Mónica Guzmán today. Over the next two months, participants will read the book and discuss with a partner. We had great energy in the room today, and are looking forward to hearing what people take from the book to be better prepared to have "fearlessly curious" conversations.

We had a great visit today with Senator Jo Comerford, who shared updates about the work of her office and the MA State Senate, and answered student questions about everything from education to transportation to housing to taxes and more. We hope to host her for another visit soon to keep the conversation going!

The artist Jonathan Ryan Storm reimagines the rug as both object and experience: tactile, optical, and spatial. The tufted works in the exhibit, on display in GCC`s South Gallery from Oct. 8-Nov. 6, are not simply surfaces, but environments—fields of rhythm and vibration that invite interaction.

Storm’s practice begins in intuition. He follows rhythm and repetition through the hypnotic motion of tufting, creating compositions that feel discovered rather than designed. Though colorblind, Storm deploys hue and contrast with heightened sensitivity, allowing the body’s perception to take precedence over thought.

Being on the autism spectrum, Storm embraces his “obsession” with rhythm, repetition, and automatic movement as a generative force. What feels compelling and soothing in the act of making is transmitted to the viewer through optical rhythm, tactile texture and vibrating presence. Primateria is not an exhibition of static objects, but a sensory environment—an invitation to feel, to follow and to lose oneself in the oscillating flow.”

GCC students, alumni, faculty and staff helped out with the Green River cleanup as part of the @ctriverconservancy Source to Sea cleanup. So great to see so many people volunteering, and to contribute to the effort in GCC`s neighborhood. Behind us was just some of the thousands of pounds of trash pulled from local rivers and riverbanks.

Greenfield native Jordan Brechenser chose to begin his college journey at Greenfield Community College. At the time, Jordan wasn’t entirely sure what he wanted to study or where he was headed professionally. What he did know was that GCC offered an affordable, supportive place to start exploring. “Being local, GCC felt familiar,” Jordan reflects. “It wasn’t intimidating—it felt like a natural next step from high school.” Read more: gccfor.me/jordan-brechenser

Happy Constitution Day! Today we celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787 — the foundation of our democracy. It’s a day to reflect on the rights, freedoms, and responsibilities we all share as citizens.🇺🇸

Attending Greenfield Community College was a transformational experience for Matthew Ackerman that helped shape both his personal and professional path. Affordability is what initially drew him to the college, but it was the flexibility and supportive environment that truly won him over. “GCC allowed me to explore my interests and easily switch concentrations when I wanted something new,” he said. “I always recommend it whenever I get the chance.”
