A decision to close or delay the opening of the GCC campus rests solely with the President of the College and is made based on the best information available regarding road conditions, accessibility of the campus (parking lots and sidewalks) and operational status (heat and electricity).

Every effort will be made to announce a cancellation of in-person, hybrid, online and activities by 6 a.m. for day offerings and by 4 p.m. for evening offerings. It is recognized, however, that in some circumstances it will be impossible to follow these timelines. Use the following channels to receive information:

• Call the GCC Weather Hotline at (413) 775-1010 after 6 a.m. for day class information and after 4 p.m. for evening class information.
• Please DO NOT call Public Safety for questions on school closures or delays so that the phone lines can be kept open for emergency calls. Information on delayed openings  or cancellations is available on local television and radio stations.
• GCC Alerts. All GCC student and employee email accounts are part of ALERT GCC.  Students and employees personal phones and emails should be updated in MyGCC; we strongly encourage you to do this. To update your personal contact information for ALERT GCC:
  • Sign in to your MyGCC account
  • Click on the "My Account" button and then select "ALERT GCC Update information" in the Personal Information section.
  • At the ALERT GCC Update Information page, update your information.
  • Click on the "Submit Changes" button.

Conditions may vary greatly within the College’s service area; therefore, when classes are being held, students must ultimately determine if they are able to attend classes. When a class is missed, students are responsible for contacting their instructors to request an opportunity to make up missed work. Each instructor is the judge of the validity of the student’s reason for not attending and will permit make-ups according to their individual policies. Students are encouraged to become familiar with the policies of their instructors.

GCC students participating in clinical, practicums, service learning or other activities at other sites may be required to report. Faculty and program coordinators will inform students at the beginning of each semester of their inclement weather protocol.
