Growing Adult Learners Through Mass Reconnect Posted on July 29, 2025 July 29, 2025 The state's MassReconnect program was first launched two years ago to provide free community college tuition for students age 25 and older who do not yet have a bachelor’s degree. Since then, GCC has experienced a 25% increase in students over age 25 from fall 2023 to fall 2024. More than half of GCC’s current student body is now age 25 or older—an indication that adult learners are increasingly making GCC their college of choice. GCC's flexible scheduling and supportive programs attract adult students. Many of our students are balancing work, family, and education, and GCC’s offerings allow them the opportunity to earn a credential while managing their busy lives. They’re not just attending college—they’re building a foundation for a future beyond GCC, whether that’s transferring to a four-year university or advancing in their current careers. The MA Healey-Driscoll administration highlights that students aged 25 and older are increasingly enrolling in programs linked to high-demand industries such as healthcare, business, STEM, trades, and human services. This trend underscores the vital role community colleges like GCC play in workforce development, supporting both personal prosperity and regional economic growth. At GCC, we’re proud to be part of this statewide movement that emphasizes accessible, affordable education for adult learners. Our goal is to continue providing supportive, flexible pathways for students looking to enrich their lives and careers through higher education. Whether you’re returning to school after years away or exploring a new career, Greenfield Community College is here to help you succeed. Join us in shaping your future today.
