Thanks to recent state funding, GCC will launch new programs that prepare students for careers in the high-demand areas of health care and early childhood education.

The programs will include specialized, hands-on training and will include paid, on-the-job training to ensure students gain valuable skills while earning income. By partnering with local organizations including Arcadia New England, Best of Care, O’Connell Care at Home, Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Mass General VNA, many students will able to receive immediate employment as home health aides and preschool and childcare employees.

Similarly, GCC’s early childhood education program will be structured as a paid apprenticeship, beginning next summer. Participants will work with local preschool centers and learn about child development and early learning theories while receiving training from GCC. All costs related to participation are covered by the grant, making it accessible to a diverse range of residents.

These programs are part of a regional effort to support occupations listed as priorities in the Pioneer Valley Labor Market Blueprint. By focusing on practical, work-based learning experiences, GCC aims to build a strong workforce that can support our community’s evolving needs—helping residents find stable employment and allowing families to access high-quality care and services.

GCC’s expanding educational offerings demonstrate a continued commitment to serving our community through innovative, workforce-focused programs. We believe that investing in skills and knowledge today leads to stronger, healthier communities tomorrow.
