About OLP

The Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) is unique – it is the only one-year leadership training program of its kind in the United States accredited by the Association for Experiential Education. OLP maintains high industry standards across all content areas, offering comprehensive training in technical and group development skills necessary to lead adventure activities and programs.

The focus of OLP is to offer a broad-based immersion experience across multi-season land and water activities. OLP provides an intensive, community-oriented learning environment to develop leadership and teaching skills in a maximum of twenty students accepted to the program each year. Our unique competency ratings, along with nationally recognized certification requirements, provide a framework for technical curriculum. Working closely within an intact group creates a living laboratory for exploring human relations skills necessary for effective outdoor leadership and group management.

Our 9:00am-4:00pm weekday schedule is far from traditional. Daily instruction and field experiences provide the backbone for extended backcountry land and water expeditions sequentially designed and implemented throughout the year. You will spend more than 100 days in the field during the program. Our hands-on approach allows for rapid individual development supported by multiple small group experiences. This ongoing development of personal skills provides an excellent foundation upon which to build instructional and leadership skills.
