Looking for a high school equivalency (HSE) credential?

Massachusetts offers two tests: the HiSET® (High School Equivalency Test) and GED® (General Education Diploma)—both of which are offered in-person by GCC.

Visit doe.mass.edu/hse for more information about eligibility, testing accommodations, combining HiSET®/GED® scores, requirements for test takers under the age of 18 and the difference between the two tests.

Schedule & Registration

All registration and payment for high school equivalency tests must be done be through the HiSET® or GED® websites. HiSET® tests can be completed on paper or computer. GED® tests are primarily on computer (paper testing is available only for those with special accommodations). Both tests can be taken in either Spanish or English.

All in-person testing takes place in the Testing Center, C110.

    • 16 and 17-year-olds may still use other forms of ID if desired. Test takers who wish to use a student ID will fill out a form at the test center confirming their age.
