Free Community College is Here!

No matter your age or income—community college is now FREE in Massachusetts!

MassEducate and MassReconnect programs allow all Massachusetts residents who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree to attend college at no cost. This means that all course-related tuition and fees for eligible courses (applied after all other state and federal aid and grants) are free—and ou may qualify for an allowance of up to $600 per semester or $1200 per academic year towards books, supplies and expenses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for free college, you must:

Complete the FAFSA

If you are not eligible to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and are an approved “High School Completer” under the Massachusetts tuition equity law, you can complete the Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA) and still attend for free.

You must also enroll in an approved program of study—college is only free if you are completing a degree or certificate.

Reside in Massachusetts

You must have physically resided in Massachusetts for at least one year as of the start of your first enrolled term.

Take at least six credits a semester

To receive the benefit, you must enroll in at least six credits (usually two classes) per semester in an approved program of study leading to an associate degree or certificate.
