These branching and mound‑shaped fossils are the remains of ancient bryozoan colonies—tiny, filter‑feeding animals that lived together in vast, reef‑like structures. As the colonies grew on the seafloor, their skeletons accumulated and were eventually buried and preserved within limestone.
