Library Intern

Overview

The S. White Dickinson Memorial Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative summer intern to join our team for the 2026 summer season. This is a hands-on opportunity for current Greenfield Community College students to gain real-world experience in public library operations, community programming, and marketing while making a meaningful impact on your local community.

Our summer reading theme this year is “Plant a Seed, Read”, and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to help bring it to life—and who isn’t afraid to bring their own ideas to the table.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Programming Support—Assist with planning, promoting, and running summer reading programs and community events, including activities tied to our “Plant a Seed, Read” theme
  • Marketing & Design—Create engaging promotional materials using Canva (social media graphics, flyers, signage, and more)
  • Library Operations—Greet and assist patrons, support circulation and front desk functions, and contribute to the day-to-day flow of the library
  • Passion Project (Optional)Have an idea for a program, exhibit, or initiative? We’d love to hear it. Interns with specific project interest are encouraged to share it during the application process

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at Greenfield Community College
  • Interest in libraries, community services, education, communications, or a related field
  • Familiarity with Canva or willingness to learn
  • Friendly, reliable, and comfortable working with the public
  • Self-starter who can take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team

Hours Per Week

Desired Outcomes

  • Dates: June 1 – August 28, 2026
  • Hours: 5-10 hours per week
  • Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit available in coordination with GCC
  • Location: Primarily in-person at S. White Dickinson Memorial Library, with some hybrid flexibility

Compensation

$15/hour
