Challenge Course Facilitator Intern Overview Challenge Course Facilitators lead engaging, safe, and team-focused experiences on the UMass Amherst NEST Challenge Course, helping participants build confidence, communication skills, leadership, and meaningful group connections through low- and high-challenge activities. Intern Responsibilities - Facilitate low and high challenge course activities and team-building initiatives - Effectively manage groups on the static belay SkyPark and the Spectrum Auto-Zip - Create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all participants - Lead groups through guided reflection debriefs - Monitor participant safety and enforce all course policies and procedures - Conduct pre- and post-course inspections, PPE checks, and setup/takedown of elements - Implement risk management practices and respond appropriately to emergencies - Support group communication, problem-solving, and leadership development - Assist with trip logistics, activity preparation, and program documentation - Attend all relevant meetings and trainings Preferred Qualifications Required / Core Qualifications: - Commitment to safety, inclusion, and positive group experiences - Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills - Ability to manage groups in active outdoor environments - Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions - Ability to remain attentive, active, and engaged throughout programming - Willingness to complete facilitator and safety training Preferred Qualifications: - CPR/First Aid certification - Experience facilitating challenge courses, camps, outdoor recreation, or youth programs - Experience with team building, experiential education, or leadership development activities - Comfort with heights Hours Per Week 10 Desired Outcomes Compensation $15/hour
